Recent UK Import to AUS.........What have I done?

Wow! the Australian job market for us Brits is super tough. Kinda reminds me of those early days when employers wanted experience, the kind of experience that you needed a job in order to get?? well as a recent arrival in Australia (Brisbane), I am stuck in that very same situation again, it would seem that you need to have had previous experience working in Australia before you can be considered for employment in Australia. Ever so slightly difficult when you have never been here before.

Ok, so please someone help me out here......is this a thinly veiled attempt by Aussie employers to preclude UK and NZ migrants from securing employment here in AU? I am not suggesting that it is an Australia wide conspiracy but on the flip side I am hearing this a lot from Brits and Kiwis and I am totally puzzled by it. Last time I looked we all had a lot in common, English Language, Same side of Road Driving, Laws based on similar system, Same Values and so much more so WTF!

Applied for 27 jobs so far and only one employer had the decency to say no thanks (Brisbane City Council) not one of the others even bothered with a text or email!! irritating enough, but the effort I personally expend on writing top notch cover letters to these tossers to simply be ignored really rips my undies!

If anybody can offer me any insight to the Australian employers psyche I would truly welcome it, because something is not right here. I am no mastermind I admit to that but certainly no dumb ass either, previously worked at UK Embassy in Washington DC then the New Zealand Customs Service then the NZ Embassy in Thailand, all in good positions, I have a decent education and tons of experience, I even have a heavy goods vehicle licence all transferred over to an AU licence, can I get a trucking job? no not even with 15 years of driving with a clean licence, can I get a low level office job no? can I get a supermarket job, no? question is how long is long enough to keep trying, my poor long suffering wife who was a Reservations Manager in Thailand is now working serving food part time in a restaurant making ridiculously low money to make ends meet Grrrrrr!

I want to love Australia and everything about it, I really do, Brisbane is a lovely city and all of the Aussies we have met so far have been kind and friendly to me and my wife, so what is the deal here, I am aware of the mass loss of civil servants jobs last year or so but surely they don't all have truck licences.....or do they.

If you reply to my blog please dont lambast me too severely, I am just grumpy and fed up because my money is running out and I am starting to panic and lash out a bit, my true nature is much better that my blog might imply.
